Hello to my Rainbow Valley Neighbors.

Our Civic Club met at the Sagemont Center on June 19, 2017. If you missed this meeting that means you have not been going to our web site. The neighborhood newsletter is posted there. The newsletter will not be delivered to your door as before. I am hoping that you all will take the time to visit this site. You will be receiving post cards soon with instructions on how to log onto the site. Please post your feedback on the web page, under questions and comments. I am really interested in knowing how you like it.

The city has made it against the law for panhandlers to stand on the street corners asking for money or food. You can help this law be effective by not giving them money or buying anything from them. You may also call 311 and report any one still asking for money on the street corners.

I want you to be aware of your surroundings when you are out shopping or doing anything when you are alone. One of our own neighbors was mugged and knocked to the ground after shopping at Macy's. She is slowly recovering from her bumps and bruises but know that this can have a great impact on you mentally. Again asking you to be careful. There are those who want nothing else but to take what you have instead of going out and getting their own.

The next meeting for the RVCC is in August. We will be meeting every other month at different times and places, so stay tuned. The date and place will be posted soon. The contest is still ongoing until December. Come be a part, and find out what you will have to do to win a set of Southwest airlines tickets.

Congratulations to Diamonndlee Velez, Jami's daughter on graduating. We are very proud of you. Diamonndlee was awarded a $500 scholarship by the RVCC. Thank you for all the work you put into the Civic Club and best wishes for a very bright and successful future.

Steve and Billie Garfield’s home at 10922 Overlea always looks good, so it was no surprised to hear it was selected as June’s Yard of the Month. I went to visit with Billie and found out that Steve is in charge of the yard and flower beds, while Billie rules the fish pond.

That’s according to Billie. Her animal friends tell a different story—”She can rule when we’re not holding court!” and that was from the Honorable Judge Blue Night Heron, who really presides there. He is large and made of blue-grey, painted plastic with painted markings to match his real bird counterparts. His role is to keep those real birds, the heck, out of there. He is assisted by the court’s bailiff, Mr. Horned Owl. The day I was there, three witnesses, Misters See No, Hear No and Speak No Evil, were summoned, but worthless, on the stand. They were, however, extremely cute in the pond gallery with Ms. Gray Concrete Turtle, Mr. Partially Submerged Alligator, Mrs. Arma Dillo and a host of other onlookers, whose job it has to be, to delight the host of their youngest grandchildren.

The Garfields keep a beautiful home and yard and are a retired, but hard-working, fun-loving couple, who make our neighborhood better for being here. Thank you, Billie and Steve, and Congratulations on Your Award!

Hello Rainbow Valley Civic Club and all residents. Our last meeting, in April was truly a lot of fun. It was a "HOT DOG" meeting in the back yard of President James and Alva Gums. There was plenty of food and drinks, even had dessert.

There was a lot discussed and decisions made at this meeting. First we have decided to meet every other month. Our next meeting is fast approaching on Monday, June 19th. We also decided

to change the days of the meeting. We will not be meeting on Thursdays only. We will be meeting on different days at different locations. Sometimes we will meet at the Sagemont Center but mostly at local restaurants and at members homes. The meeting for June will be at Sagemont at 7pm.

I want to welcome our newest Civic club member, Mr. Lau V Tran, please take a moment to welcome him. We are very pleased to have him as a new member.

We have a new Yard of the Month sign. I think you will like it as do I. I Hope this will inspire you to want it posted in your yard. Our new sign was designed by Diamond, Jami's daughter. Diamond has always

taken an active part in the civic club and she will be graduating from high school this year. The civic club unanimously decided to present Diamond with a scholarship of $500.00 for all her work and efforts. We are very proud of you Diamond and wish nothing but the very best that life has to offer

you.

See you at the next meeting,

James Gums, President
