Steve and Billie Garfield’s home at 10922 Overlea always looks good, so it was no surprised to hear it was selected as June’s Yard of the Month. I went to visit with Billie and found out that Steve is in charge of the yard and flower beds, while Billie rules the fish pond.
That’s according to Billie. Her animal friends tell a different story—”She can rule when we’re not holding court!” and that was from the Honorable Judge Blue Night Heron, who really presides there. He is large and made of blue-grey, painted plastic with painted markings to match his real bird counterparts. His role is to keep those real birds, the heck, out of there. He is assisted by the court’s bailiff, Mr. Horned Owl. The day I was there, three witnesses, Misters See No, Hear No and Speak No Evil, were summoned, but worthless, on the stand. They were, however, extremely cute in the pond gallery with Ms. Gray Concrete Turtle, Mr. Partially Submerged Alligator, Mrs. Arma Dillo and a host of other onlookers, whose job it has to be, to delight the host of their youngest grandchildren.
The Garfields keep a beautiful home and yard and are a retired, but hard-working, fun-loving couple, who make our neighborhood better for being here. Thank you, Billie and Steve, and Congratulations on Your Award!
