The RVCC met at the Gardens for the first time this year. The Gardens is a lovely place.

James Gums our retiring President opened the meeting asking for a financial report from

Tom Writer the Treasurer. Tom gave his report and reminded us that our yearly dues of $35

per Household is now due.

After the financial report our guest Speaker was introduced. Mr. Steven James who is from

the office of our District D Council Representative, Ms. Carolyn Shabazz. Mr James explained

that he is the person to contact when we need help with a project, or issues in our community, He also said he can provide help to those in need with light bills, free adult services, such as food for the elderly and families in need. He is there to help for adult protective services. President James Gums inquired about our garbage, trash, and heavy trash pick ups which are almost none at all. We are weeks behind on heavy trash collections. He has complained to the city weekly with very little results. Mr James answered that the city's budget is the problem. Mr James answered more question before he had to leave us. We thanked him for

his presence and information. He also left pamplets that identified fines that could be placed

on residents for garage set out on the street more that a day before pick-up. There is even

a bigger fine for placing heavy trash on the curb before the pick up day. First offense $50 -

$1,000, second offense $100-$1,500, 3rd offense $200 -$2,000. Junk cars parked on property

Can be fined $200.00 - $2,000. You may report violations to 3-1-1.

After Mr James left James Gums opened the nominations for President, Fred Brown was nominated and was voted in as president. Nominations for Vice President were called for.

Matthew Doan was nominated but he declined. Gary Hooks volunteered to hold the position of Vice President, after a vote was taken Gary was elected Vice President. Secretary and Treasure offices will remain the same. Alva Gums Secretary, Tom Writer Treasurer

Our new President Fred Brown took over and shared some of his plans for the neighborhood.

He has great ideas for improvement, meeting and knowing your neighbors. Keep your eyes and hears open for the next meeting to hear the of the great plans he has in mind.

We had a nice number of members at the meeting and at the ending of the meeting we gathered for refreshments.

We are now ready to bring the Rainbow Valley Civic Club back. We have been absent for

a year but we are coming back stronger than ever. Our new president Fred Brown is eager

and ready to start a new year. He is eager to meet with all of YOU with new ideas for moving forward.

Lets begin with the first meeting of this year. You will be receiving Post Cards in the mail

for a meeting to be held at The Gardens, 12001 Beamer Rd, Houston, TX. 77089. The

meeting will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. We are asking all the residents of Rainbow

Valley to please be present. We have requested that Ms. Carolyn Shabazz, our City Council

representative be present. So if you have questions or concerns this will be the time to get answers.

We have also invited the City Director over Garbage and Heavy Trash pick up.

This is a very important time for you our residents to be present. The more members present

the greater their response will be to us.

There will be refreshment, and there will be door prizes for some lucky person. I can not express the importance of the meeting. If you want to see results bring your neighbor with

you. The greater the numbers present the greater the results from our representatives.

This is a trying time we are experiencing with this Coronavirus but don't worry if you don't

have a face mask there will be one provided for you. The seating will be spaced between each person. We are very much aware of Social Distancing. So relax and join us on Wednesday June 17th at 6pm.

A word of Congregations to all our 2020 Graduates we are so proud of you all. We offer Best Wishes to you for your future what ever that may be. You've come this far there is no stopping you now. "GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU".

Alva Gums June 4

To all my residents of Rainbow Valley, there have been several burglaries of homes in our community. Recently three homes in Rainbow Valley were broken into and robbed. One home was broken into with the resident inside. The resident was not harmed. The culprit ran when he realizes someone was home. This is to put you all on notice. Protect your home.!! We all work to hard for what we have. To a degree we are isolated here, surrounded by apartments on all sides. If you don't have a security system you may want to think about installing one. Please don't let your guard down. These burglaries happened on a Wednesday, late morning and the robber came back to the house he had already robbed on Friday, but to his surprise there was someone home who called the police. He was not captured. He is still out there and he may see us as easy picking and come back again.

Look out for your neighbors. If you see something or someone who looks suspicious call the police. It is not a crime to be wrong, but if you are right your neighbors will be thankful.

We have not set a date for our next meeting in December. We are still trying to decide to have a Christmas Party or not. A decision will be made in the next week. Stay Tuned!
