The RVCC met at the Gardens for the first time this year. The Gardens is a lovely place.
James Gums our retiring President opened the meeting asking for a financial report from
Tom Writer the Treasurer. Tom gave his report and reminded us that our yearly dues of $35
per Household is now due.
After the financial report our guest Speaker was introduced. Mr. Steven James who is from
the office of our District D Council Representative, Ms. Carolyn Shabazz. Mr James explained
that he is the person to contact when we need help with a project, or issues in our community, He also said he can provide help to those in need with light bills, free adult services, such as food for the elderly and families in need. He is there to help for adult protective services. President James Gums inquired about our garbage, trash, and heavy trash pick ups which are almost none at all. We are weeks behind on heavy trash collections. He has complained to the city weekly with very little results. Mr James answered that the city's budget is the problem. Mr James answered more question before he had to leave us. We thanked him for
his presence and information. He also left pamplets that identified fines that could be placed
on residents for garage set out on the street more that a day before pick-up. There is even
a bigger fine for placing heavy trash on the curb before the pick up day. First offense $50 -
$1,000, second offense $100-$1,500, 3rd offense $200 -$2,000. Junk cars parked on property
Can be fined $200.00 - $2,000. You may report violations to 3-1-1.
After Mr James left James Gums opened the nominations for President, Fred Brown was nominated and was voted in as president. Nominations for Vice President were called for.
Matthew Doan was nominated but he declined. Gary Hooks volunteered to hold the position of Vice President, after a vote was taken Gary was elected Vice President. Secretary and Treasure offices will remain the same. Alva Gums Secretary, Tom Writer Treasurer
Our new President Fred Brown took over and shared some of his plans for the neighborhood.
He has great ideas for improvement, meeting and knowing your neighbors. Keep your eyes and hears open for the next meeting to hear the of the great plans he has in mind.
We had a nice number of members at the meeting and at the ending of the meeting we gathered for refreshments.
